A town nearby
Greyton
Oak-lined lanes under the Riviersonderend mountains, and a Saturday market.
1 hour from the estate
A village of whitewashed cottages and oak lanes at the foot of the Riviersonderend range, laid out in the 1850s and barely altered since. The Boesmanskloof trail starts above it and walks over the mountain to McGregor.
How it got here
Founded in 1854 by Herbert Vigne, who divided his farm into plots on the condition that the village stayed a village. It largely has.
What to do there
- The Saturday morning market
- Walk up into the Boesmanskloof, even if only for an hour of it
- The lanes themselves — it is a village for walking around
Worth knowing
- The full Boesmanskloof traverse to McGregor needs a permit and a whole day
- It is an hour each way. Make it a day, not an afternoon
