Caledon
Hot springs coming out of the mountain, and a wild flower garden above the town.
30 minutes from the estate
An Overberg farming town built on seven mineral springs that come out of the mountain at fifty degrees. People have been getting into them for as long as there have been people here.
How it got here
The springs were known to the Khoi long before the first European bath house went up in 1710. The town grew around them and around the wheat that the Overberg has grown ever since.
What to do there
- The hot springs
- The wild flower garden on the mountain above the town — best in spring
- The wheat country on the R316, which is the drive
Worth knowing
- The flower garden is at its best from August into September
