The Kleinmond wild horses
A herd living wild on the estuary marshes, and nobody quite agrees how.
15 minutes from the estate
Horses have lived wild on the Bot River estuary for generations. Nobody agrees entirely on how they got there — abandoned farm stock is the usual explanation — and they have been left alone ever since. They graze the marshes around Fisherhaven and Kleinmond and are usually visible from the road.
What to do there
- Drive the road towards Fisherhaven early or late
- Look across the marshes on the estuary side
- The estate's own lookout deck often gets you the same herd from across the water
Worth knowing
- They are genuinely wild. Watch from the car and do not feed them
- Early morning and late afternoon are when they are out grazing
