The cliff paths
Hermanus and Kleinmond both have one. Free, open, and the best whale watching on land.
10 to 35 minutes from the estate
Two of them, and both are free. The Hermanus cliff path runs twelve kilometres from the New Harbour to Grotto Beach, never far from the edge, and in season the whales come in close enough that you look down on them. Kleinmond has its own shorter coastal path ten minutes from the estate, with fewer people on it.
What to do there
- Hermanus: start at the Old Harbour and walk east
- Kleinmond: the coastal path from the harbour, ten minutes from the estate
- Go early — the light is better and the towns are not awake
Worth knowing
- Both are open at all hours and cost nothing
- Whales are here June to December, thickest in September and October
- Sections are uneven. Proper shoes, not sandals
