The Hermanus Cliff Path
Twelve kilometres of coast path, free, and the best whale watching on land.
35 minutes from the estate
It runs the entire length of Hermanus, from the New Harbour to Grotto Beach, never more than a few metres from the edge. In season the whales come in close enough that you look down on them. There is no gate and no fee.
What to do there
- Start at the Old Harbour and walk east — the first stretch is the best
- Sievers Point and Gearing's Point for the deep water close in
- Walk it early: the light is better and the town is not awake
Worth knowing
- It is open at all hours and costs nothing
- Sections are uneven — proper shoes, not sandals
