Springfontein Eats

A table worth the drive

Springfontein Eats

A serious kitchen on a wine farm outside Stanford.

50 minutes from the estate

A kitchen on a wine farm on the Klein River outside Stanford, and completely out of proportion to the size of the village next to it. People drive from Cape Town for lunch and drive back.

How it got here

The Springfontein estate has been making wine on the Klein River for decades; the restaurant came later and quickly became the reason most people arrive.

What to do there

  • The tasting menu, if you have the afternoon
  • Taste the estate wines before you sit down
  • Walk down to the river afterwards

Worth knowing

  • Fifty minutes out, and the R326 is part of the pleasure
  • Small kitchen — book, and do not be in a hurry
